CLOOS expands the product portfolio with a welding simulator by Weldplus

HAIGER - Carl Cloos Schweisstechnik GmbH in Haiger and Weldplus UG in Hachenburg cooperate with regard to the sales of welding simulators from now on. With the new technology trainees can learn on a computer how to weld without being affected by fume, flashes and pungent smell. Virtual welding offers great opportunities to modernise the education of welders. CLOOS will present the simulator during the "Welding & Cutting" exhibition from 16 to 21 September 2013 in Essen.

Welding on the computer? The new technology from Canada allows to perform the entire welding process virtually. This is a time-saving and cost-effective alternative to practical welding because exercise material is not needed. By means of a mask the trainees are put on a simulated welding table where they have to act like at a real working place. The welding instructor visualises and evaluates the work result on the screen simultaneously. Thus the user gets an objective feedback with exact error analysis regarding the torch guidance, welding speed and distance to the workpiece. Even wrong body postures during welding are recognised and communicated by the virtual coach. A competitive-like evaluation point system increases the willingness and motivation of the trainees. In addition, the whole welding process is video recorded so that the instructor gets the opportunity to evaluate the trainee. Thus the learning progress can be traced step by step.

Virtual welding without being affected by fume, flashes and pungent smell

Well educated welders belong to one of the most demanded occupational groups in the world because the demographic change also influences the welding industry. Furthermore, industry and trade notice a reduced interest of young people in the welder education. The new technology offers great possibilities to improve the image of the demanding welder profession. The trainees know how to use the computer interactively and like it. But the computer-based welding trainer shall not replace but support the practical education in the welding cabin.

The welding simulator completes the existing CLOOS portfolio in welding and robot technology. From the expansion of the product range the company expects access to new markets. Weldplus will mainly benefit from the international sales structure of CLOOS which is one of the leading specialists in arc welding and robot technology. There are more than 50 subsidiaries and representations for sales and service tasks in our worldwide CLOOS organisation. A clear "Win-Win situation" for both companies.
